Sour Patch Cherries Make A Fun Snack For Dieters

By Dorothy Ross

Giving something special to a sweetie is what valentines day is all about. Although some recipients are satisfied with sweet treats, there is nothing wrong with thinking outside of the box. Instead of going with the usual box of chocolates or fruit dipped in chocolate, something different like sour patch cherries is something the recipient is likely to remember.

Gummy candies are hard for many to resist because they are not that sweet but sweet enough to kill cravings. Many people find that having a small piece of candy or gum can be a little calming. While ingesting too much sugar can be unhealthy, having a small amount is not a bad thing. The good news about gummies, in general, is that these have zero fat content and most are very low in sugar.

If one were to compare candy types, they may find that gummies, licorice, and maybe jelly beans are great choices for those trying to raise a healthy kid. While chocolate has some health benefits, this is normally found in dark chocolate, which can be bitter to some. While some sugar candy types, like those that pop in the mouth, may be low calorie, the sugar content makes them dangerous when consumed for a period of time.

Gummy candies are great for anyone watching their waistline or who need to monitor their health. In this instance, it is best to buy those brands not covered in sugar. Since most of these are already made with real fruit, too much of the white stuff can take away the natural taste.

Although snacks in the form of fruit, grains, and vegetables are the best everyday choice, gummy candies are better than most snacks because many contain fruit juice. Since fruit has its own natural sweetness factor, there is little need to add while sugar to a recipe that goes back nearly a century. The tangy taste that sour gummies tend to have less sugar but for some, kill those annoying sweet cravings.

Because the taste is so intense, they can make a nice twist to other low calorie foods, like plain yogurt, protein ice cream, or sorbet. Just grab a few and place on top of berry, plain, or vanilla flavors and anyone who is on a diet will find this is a nice alternative to having an actual parfait or sundae that has toppings that are high in calories or fat.

These candies are also versatile for anyone who is considering a low calorie diet. As variety can be a challenge for dieters of any age, childhood obesity is the easiest to prevent when the parent or caretaker starts early. Low sugar sweets or dried fruit can make a nice topping for lowfat yogurt, sorbet, or nondairy treats.

So anyone who is trying to cut sweets can keep a small bag at their desk or home drawer without feeling guilty. The texture may seem a little unusual for those tasting for the first time but candies of this kind are very easy to ingest. Sometimes it is just a matter of finding the right flavor.
