By D'angelo G. Deighan

Addiction can be defined as a condition that makes one to exclusively be dependent on a substance. He or she is unable to live normally in absence of this substance. Causative agents include the internet, shopping and drugs among many others. The need for addiction education is essential because society is today comprised by very many addicts.

Addiction can refer to very many things in life therefore this subject is supposed to be discussed in broader perspectives. Most people these days, are stressed and their only remedy for during low moments is substance abuse. They find themselves enslaved in activities and substance consumption thus knowledge on how to curb this menace is essential.

It is wrong to attribute desire for pleasure to substance dependence because people differ in character and morality. There has been long debates on whether this menace should be classified as a disease or a mental condition because it has properties of both.

The healing process needed is usually initiated by the mind of the victim. Recovery is a psychological process that encompasses several steps that require adequate planning. It all starts by identifying the need to live a sober life then setting up goals which will ensure this problem will be solved. After objectives are achieved in the long run, monitoring should be done to ensure that they are effective.

The advent of modern ways of doing things has initiated the dispensation of knowledge everywhere. Innovations in the communication sector have tremendously simplified the ways in which information is shared with the public. People can access pertinent information from libraries, book retailers, the internet and from other forms of street publications like adverts.

Sociable practices like speaking to colleagues and family are encouraged for they help individuals in battling substance abuse. There is a mutual connection created whenever these parties meet and this state of mind fosters positivism hence victims of previous substance dependence are able to live happier lives.

Facilities have been established in every country meant to rehabilitate addicts. For instance, rehabilitation centers for those dependent on drugs exist to help reform these individuals. In these institutions, the victims are given life skills that help to change their individual perspectives towards substance use.

In conclusion, awareness creation is very important because it helps in transforming lives at personal levels. The state is supposed to partner with other corporations and ensure that citizens are fully conversant with the various ways on how to cope with addiction.
