Trying a new diet or new lifestyle is a way to improve your health. A vegan or vegetarian lifestyle is becoming more and more popular. You dont have go to extremes. Simply eating chemical free foods is a good place to start.

Incorporating greens in your diet is a good way to get vitamins and minerals into your system. So when you buy wild edible plants of California you are really getting a taste of nature. It is nice to see what the world can offer you and to get a sense of how you can survive in the wild.

There are nurseries that sell plants retail or wholesale. You can find them online. If they are too far from where you live since many are in Northern California you can buy them online and have it delivered to your home. You can also find places in other parts of the state that sell edible plants.

It is good to use a nursery to buy your seedlings and pods because you are guaranteed safe nontoxic plants. It is not advisable to try and pick out the plants by yourself in the wild. They could grow next to similar looking vegetation that may be poisonous.

There are many benefits in adding wild ingredients to your diet. They have many medicinal and healing properties. Native Americans have used them for years because of their ability to cure. Some seeds are good for detoxifying. Some like milk thistle are good for preventing liver damage. Nature has its own cures for modern illnesses.

Asiatic dayflower is commonly known as an invasive weed. However, this variety has medicinal properties and every part of it is edible. It can treat tonsillitis and sore throat. It also has anti inflammatory and diuretic effects. It has been used in India and China because of its healing powers. This can be mixed raw in salads.

Chocolate lovers, listen up. Carob which can be found in a pod is a natural sugar. You can find it in health food stores because it is a common substitute for chocolate. You can have it in a smoothie or cake or cookie. It comes from a thirty foot tree in the Mediterranean but it is now almost like a native plant of North America.

In the state of California, elderberries are well known. They can be used for jams, infusions, and even wine. The key thing to remember is that only fully ripe berries must be consumed. You can be poisoned by eating unripe or green berries. Olives may not be thought of as an edible plant but these trees are commonly found in the San Fernando Valley. These cannot be eaten straight from the tree because they are bitter. They must go through a curing process for a few days to a few week so that the bitterness will be removed.

Always choose a reputable nursery. There are many to choose from. You can even try buying the seeds from the nursery and growing them in your backyard. Mixing seeds, leaves, and berries in your diet is one way to stay healthy while consuming natural unprocessed foods from nature.
