Rehab: Heroin Addicts Need It Right Away

By Lidia Perlmen

Parents all across the United States are hurting for their heroin addicted children. Many teens and young adults are finding themselves addicted to this drug. When someone gets addicted to heroin, it is often a painful experience. Many parents say that they cannot stop their child from taking these drugs. In most cases, rehab is necessary to get them sober. It will take a lot of time to see your child off of this drug. Often a 30 day inpatient program is useful in teaching someone to stay off the drug.

People that use heroin often say that they feel l like they are in heaven when they are high on the drug. After they have stopped taking the drug, they feel as though they need more of it. Heroin starts out as being a cheap cool drug to use. However, addicts know that after they take their first hit, their body wants more. The drug keeps on getting more expensive each day because you need more of it. If a person spends $10.00 for a hit of heroin, that will last them for around 30 minutes. After that, their body will need more of the drug.

If a person does not get another hit of heroin quickly, they will go into withdrawal. A person that is highly addicted to heroin often spends $200.00 per day getting high. They often have large amounts of this drug in their system. This drug makes you sleepy. Once a person falls asleep, they can have an overdose. Many people do not understand why heroin is so dangerous. The main reason why it's so dangerous is because it makes you sleepy. When someone falls asleep while on heroin, their brain tells their heart to stop beating. In a normal person's brain, the brain tells their heart to keep breathing while they are asleep. This is why someone will overdose on heroin.

A lot of parents are frustrated with their children that use heroin. They often say, "Why don't you just stop using this drug. What is wrong with you? I raised you better than this!" It is every parent's nightmare to see their child on drugs. However, what most parents don't know is that their child cannot stop using drugs on their own. Once a person's body is addicted to heroin, their body will go into severe withdrawals. If you contact a treatment center, they will put you through a detox program to get off the drug.

Many parents call treatment centers to help their children. Treatment centers offer a safe environment where your child will be watched 24/7. They will be supervised to ensure that they will not have access to the outside world while they are in treatment. Treatment centers offer a way of hope and sobriety for addicts. When someone comes out of a treatment center, they often feel as though they have gotten their life back.
