Quick Reference Tarot Card Meanings

There is something in most people's nature that is intrigued by the unknown. We may not really believe another person can predict what will happen in the future or be able to tell all about ourselves by looking into a crystal ball, but it is fun to speculate these things are possible. If you have ever been tempted to stop when you see a roadside sign advertising palm readings or pay to find out what lurks behind a closed curtain at a carnival show, you are not alone. Tarot readings seem somewhat exotic, and most people do not know much about them.

Most people like to believe that the reading of cards is an ancient art, one that goes back to ancient Egypt. This may or may not be true. It probably depends on what you read and who you think is credible. The cards may have a much more recent history than many card readers will lead you to believe. That being said, the cards seem to come in many versions and can be read in just as many different ways.

Whatever the truth, the cards are pretty consistent in what they show. One of the cards depicts a character generally known as the Fool. He has the sort of personality that most of us think we would like to have. The Fool is devil may care and individualistic. He does not make plans, and he never seems to know what he is going to do next.

The Empress is a symbol of nurturing, creativity, and a love of the good life. She represents someone who has the ability to take things as they come while remaining cool, calm, and collected. She seems to be a friend of nature and abundance. The empress will probably remind you of that friend or person you work with who has all the confidence in the world in themselves.

The Emperor card, on the other hand, is a go getter type that uses strength and power to his advantage. This is a person who is willing to step over, and sometimes on, more timid individuals. He believes in structure and controlling his environment. He is not always open to different opinions.

Most people would not be surprised to learn that the Hermit card depicts the importance of solitude, peacefulness, and self-analysis. The character on the card is usually an long bearded old man that a lantern that he holds in front of him. You get a sense that he is perfectly happy living a solitary contemplative life.

Many people are interested in the Lovers card. They might go to a fortune teller to find out about their love life, and this is the card they want to see. It represents sexuality, union, and the power of relationships. A reading of this card can be disappointing however, it it turns out that the union predicted is not between two people, but a person and a career for instance.

Having your future predicted according to the distribution of cards can be a lot of fun and a great way to pass some time on a lazy afternoon.
