Choosing A Cavachon Puppy For Sale Can Be Great For Families

By Jason Nelson

Adding a pet to a family can be the start of a great adventure. Puppies and kittens are cute, fun to watch and play with, and most love to be cuddled and petted. While some dog lovers prefer large animals that can provide protection, others prefer the small, affectionate variety. These are the pets that fit on laps and would rather accompany their owners into the kitchen than for long runs. Choosing a Cavachon puppy for sale is a great idea for the right person.

Cavachons are a hybrid mixture of the Bichon Frise and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They have been bred to combine the energy of one with the gentleness of the other. Since hybrid dogs are not recognized by the pure breed associations, there are no exact standards which genuine Cavachons have to fit into. The color of their coats and eyes may vary, as will the size. There are certain characteristics however that these little animals do universally possess.

The puppies are very small, weighing only a pound or two. They have to be handled carefully and often feel more secure if they are contained most of the time in a small basket. Even at full maturity, they will not stand much over a foot tall. This makes them great pets for apartment and loft dwellers. Retirees who spend a lot of time in their RVs also make good owners for Cavachons.

Cavachons are certainly not guard dogs. They tend to have a very sweet and gentle nature, although they have plenty of energy. They love attention and generally do better in homes where someone is around most of the day. This can make them a good choice for retired seniors in need of companionship. Regular walks and daily play will burn off any excess energy and give them the mental stimulation they need.

Obedience training is important for any family pet, and Cavachons usually take to lessons naturally. This is especially true when they are young. The dogs want to please and are intelligent. They just have to understand what their owners want from them.

Flea allergies and heart murmurs are not uncommon conditions for these dogs. They can also suffer from ear infections, so their owners need to pay special attention to this area. Cleaning the interior of their ears weekly is a good idea.

It may be hard to find certified breeders of Cavachons because they are a fairly new breed. You can probably find current owners online willing to recommend a breeder in your general area. Before you purchase any pet from a breeder, you should find out as much as possible about the genetic history of the animal you intend to purchase. If a breeder doesn't want to answer questions or show you around their facility, you should probably think twice about completing a transaction.

Adding a pet to a family unit can be very rewarding if the animal and family fit well together. Different lifestyles have different needs. Finding the right dog may take time, but it is worth it if the result is a loving and devoted companion.
