The Role Of Women In Sourcing Water In Dry Places

By Lawrence Fern

Women are highly affected by the scarcity of water in arid places around the world. The responsibility for finding water and bringing it to their homes lies on their shoulders. In places where water is easily accessible, this is just an easy job, but in arid regions this is a grueling task. Where water is not accessible, women walk for miles everyday to find it and bring it home. By providing filters that make their water safer, we can help to lighten their problem. Be a part of this mission. Click here for water filter project.

Women and children walk for miles each day to fetch water. If ever they can find an available source, they must carry the water on their shoulders on their way back home. Carrying over 40 pounds of load and walking with it for miles under the scorching heat is a big sacrifice women do for their families. It is a back-breaking job for a woman but they are obligated to do it for their family's survival. Being blessed with the abundance of water and other resources, we should do something to be able to share what we have that can mitigate their sufferings. If you have the heart to help, you may coordinate with water charity missions such as http://www.missionwaterproject.org. Your generosity can help to change someone's life for the better.

The problem of water inaccessibility begets some more problems, and women are the ones who are most affected by it. Because they spend much of their time looking for this important life resource, they are also deprived of the privilege of going to school. This can lead them to ignorance. Another problem created by the absence of water is the lack of proper sanitation. People in dry places don't have access to toilets and women are most affected by it. This is a major cause of water-related illnesses. We can help to mitigate these problems by making water more accessible to the people affected. This is the main concern of water charity missions such as Mission Water Project.

Aside from women, young girls as boys also take part in the sacrifice to find water. Little children as young as nine or ten years old are utilized to help their mothers in the job of fetching water from places far away. Like heir parents, these kids walk for miles with loads of water on their shoulders. They have to help to bring in more water for their families. These kids miss a big part of their childhood and this will go on forever if no one does something to stop it. You can be a part of the movement to give these children a better shot at life. The water crisis is the mother of many more problems in water-deprived places. It begets illiteracy, poverty, diseases and other dilemmas. It locks women in a world of misery. Their sufferings are difficult to fathom. They only have a few options and they don't have time or resources to mitigate their hardships because they need to face each day as a day of survival. Without external help, the sufferings of these people especially women will go on forever. We should make an extra step to help. One of the better ways to do it is to coordinate with water charities.

Modern technology such as the internet has helped to make many more people aware of the plight of women in water-deprived regions. This has actually triggered some slight changed. The women in some regions are now given a role to address their own dilemma. Many of them have come together to find feasible solutions to their problem of water and sanitation. With the help of the World Health Organization, water charity mission groups and other international cause-oriented organizations, means to obtain clean water such as dirty water filter and water-generating devices are installed with women at the forefront of the projects.
